Final Address

Here are the facts as of this hour: Our top scientists’ final attempts at deflecting the asteroid headed for earth have failed. In truth, it’s no asteroid, but an impenetrable projectile designed by an intelligence we were only just starting to learn about, whose motivations we have no luxury to guess. Precious few of us will survive the night. May we see each other again in the heaven of a merciful god, or the deity or future you believe in. I now sign off to be with my family in this final hour.
