The Offer

Coach Ortiz needed a win. This prominent Northeast college had won just one football game in the past two years (their opponent’s offensive line all had mono). So when the entity came to him with the offer, he barely thought it over. They destroyed the opposition the following Saturday, and every remaining Saturday that season. Many years and many teams later, as he celebrated his fifth Super Bowl ring on the balcony of his gorgeous office overlooking the stadium, the entity reappeared; it was time for payback. But even as he fell, he decided it had all been worth it.
